Local Schools
Check here for the most recent Texas Education Agency school ratings for Austin area schools (includes all districts both in the city and surrounding areas). The system rates each school as either Exemplary, Recognized, Academically Acceptable, or Academically Unacceptable. What do the ratings mean? The most recent 08-09 school ratings came out in August 2009, so see how your school ranked.
In addition to reviewing school ratings, we recommend visiting any school you are considering and meeting with the Principal. Ask questions about teacher attrition rates, programs for gifted/talented children as well as those with special needs. Take a tour of the school and watch how teachers and staff interact with students. Ask how communication works at the school. Find out about the PTO at the school and how active it is. Parents who currently have children enrolled at the school are another good source for information about a school's quality.
Please let us know of any specific questions you may have about a particular school or district. Tammy and Judy are both Mothers, so we know how important education is and also that you need to pick a school that is the right fit for your child. We can become your partner in selecting the best school for your family!
